Judge Soraya Coffelt
Soraya is a native of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands whose parents firmly believed in the importance of English literacy as the language of opportunity. Her mother taught her to read at a very early age, fueling Soraya's academic success that culminated in her graduating as valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to earn degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Cornell Law School, later serving as a judge in the Virgin Islands for over 6 years.
Soraya profoundly credits her foundational ability to read from a young age as enabling her to excel academically and professionally. This inspired her passion for promoting childhood literacy. She established the nonprofit As the Stars of the Sky Foundation, where all proceeds from her children's books go towards helping kids learn to read. Her personal experiences make Soraya highly motivated to educate communities on the critical importance of childhood literacy for future success.
